Malaysian authorities seize subsidized cooking oil and diesel in raids
Authorities in Malaysia have conducted separate enforcement operations targeting the illegal diversion of subsidized goods.
In Kelantan, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) conducted ‘Op Tiris 4.0’ in Pasir Mas. During the raid, five smugglers fled the scene, leaving behind five vehicles and over 4.1 metric tons of subsidized cooking oil. The total value of the seized items and vehicles is estimated at RM138,053.50. Investigations suggest the syndicate collected supplies from wholesalers near the border to facilitate illegal activities.
In Sabah, the Marine Police Force (PPM) disrupted a diesel smuggling syndicate in Penampang. The operation resulted in the seizure of 18,060 liters of subsidized diesel and various equipment, including a Nissan tank truck and a prime mover, with a total estimated value of RM524,176.20. Two men, aged 39 and 57, were detained. Both cases are being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
