Malaysian civil servants receive RM1.18 million in anti-corruption rewards

The Malaysian government has awarded RM1.18 million to 652 civil servants in recognition of their efforts to report bribery and corruption between 2012 and 2025. According to Datuk Seri Abd. Halim Aman, Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the rewards serve as an acknowledgment of the courage shown by officials in assisting the government's anti-corruption initiatives.

The Royal Malaysia Police recorded the highest number of recipients with 437 individuals. Other major agencies receiving recognition include the Immigration Department (64), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (33), and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (21). Notable incidents cited include a police officer in Perlis rejecting a RM200,000 bribe related to a 1.8-ton methamphetamine seizure, and another rejection of a RM45,000 bribe in Johor.

For the 2026 assessment cycle, 54 candidates from four enforcement agencies have been submitted for evaluation. This upcoming group includes 38 police candidates, 12 from the Iskandar Puteri City Council, 3 from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and one from the Immigration Department. Current evaluations involve 30 investigation papers involving attempted bribes totaling RM304,621.
