Malaysian political parties plan new coalitions following PN registration cancellation

Following the Registrar of Societies (RoS) decision to cancel the registration of Perikatan Nasional (PN), opposition parties PAS and Bersatu are developing separate strategies to form new coalitions ahead of the 16th General Election.

Bersatu is reportedly planning a new coalition, referred to as ‘PN 2.0’, which may include parties such as Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (Muda), Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Semalaysia (Berjasa), and a party representing the Indian community.

Meanwhile, PAS intends to register a new coalition involving former PN members, including Gerakan, Parti Rakyat India Malaysia (MIPP), and Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan). PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stated that the formation of this new alliance will be finalized following discussions with component parties, though he expressed concerns regarding the likelihood of RoS approval for a new registration.
