Malaysian tourist found alive after 37 days missing in Nepal floods

A Malaysian tourist has been found alive and has returned home after being missing for 37 days following devastating floods and landslides in the Nepal-China border region. The individual, a Chinese Malaysian solo traveler, was last seen at the Nagthali Viewpoint on August 25, just before the disaster struck.

According to the organization Malaysia Solidarity: Families in Hope (MASFIH), the traveler managed to reach the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu to confirm their safety before departing for Malaysia. The traveler had been stranded due to destroyed roads, bridges, and a lack of electricity, clean water, and telecommunications.

The disaster, triggered by a Himalayan glacier collapse near Langtang Lirung, released energy equivalent to a 5.2-magnitude earthquake. The resulting floods and landslides have caused significant loss of life, with reports indicating over 1,400 people killed and more than 5,000 still missing across Nepal and the Tibet region. While this individual has been rescued, 54 other Malaysian citizens remain unaccounted for following the August floods.
