Malaysia's Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections scheduled separately

Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders in Johor said that holding the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections at the same time would not give any party an advantage, stressing that election outcomes depend on each party’s preparation and organisational capacity. Deputy UMNO President Mohamed Khaled Nordin noted that BN is ready to contest regardless of whether the polls are concurrent or staggered, and outlined the nomination, early voting and polling dates for each state.

The Election Commission (SPR) explained that logistical challenges and the sudden dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly made simultaneous voting impractical. SPR Chairman Ramlan Harun said staff and equipment needed to be allocated separately, and that the commission had consulted the Attorney General’s Department to address procedural issues. Consequently, the Johor poll is set for 11 July, while Negeri Sembilan will vote on 1 August.
