Malaysia's Johor state election: PAS backs BN candidates to thwart PH and DAP

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the Islamic party will continue supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates, including those from Bersatu, in the Johor state election to prevent Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) from winning. He stressed that “what’s more important is we must not let PH win,” even though PAS ended its formal cooperation with Bersatu earlier this month.

Umno Supreme Council member Nur Jazlan Mohamed clarified that there is no formal pact between BN and PAS, but both share a common enemy in PH. He welcomed PAS supporters to vote for BN candidates in seats where PN does not contest, noting that “because we have a common enemy, we welcome votes from PAS supporters.”

In the July 11 poll, all 56 state seats are contested by BN and PH, while PN fields candidates in 33 seats, leaving several straight fights and multi‑cornered contests across the state.
