Malaysia's PAS Removes Bersatu Leaders from Perikatan Nasional Leadership

Two senior Bersatu officials were stripped of their posts within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. Senior vice‑president Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin lost the PN election director role, succeeded by Kedah Menteri Besar and PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. Bersatu secretary‑general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was also dismissed from the PN deputy secretary‑general post. The changes were presented by PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as necessary to comply with the coalition’s constitution, intensifying the rift between PAS and Bersatu.

Bersatu leadership, including party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, affirmed the party will remain inside PN and contest upcoming state elections under the coalition banner. Critics, such as Prof. Dr P. Ramasamy, argue that PAS’s actions are fragmenting the opposition bloc and weakening PN’s prospect of capturing Putrajaya, blaming the removal of Bersatu figures and the appointment of former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as opposition leader for the split.
