Malaysia's PAS Terminates Alliance with Bersatu Party

The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) announced it will end its political cooperation with the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), effective immediately. PAS central information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the decision follows an assessment of the partnership's ability to achieve the party’s broader goal of ummah unity and national stability, noting recent Bersatu actions in Perlis and Negeri Sembilan have undermined PAS morale.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed the termination, and the move will be managed according to PAS constitutional provisions within the Perikatan Nasional coalition. PKR deputy president and Home Affairs minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the split was not surprising, describing it as part of a historical pattern of PAS severing ties with former allies. He warned that the dissolution does not automatically strengthen the opposition, which must rely on cooperation and collective effort.
