Malaysia's PAS weighs solo run as Bersatu seeks new allies

Party vice‑president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Bersatu would welcome new partners if the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) decides to contest future elections independently. "If that is PAS’s position, we have no right to stop them," he told reporters, adding that many parties would still stand with Bersatu.

PAS’s syura council later deferred any decision on the party’s relationship with Bersatu to the central leadership. Council secretary Nik Zawawi Salleh urged members to “uphold party discipline, close ranks, and ensure the interests of Islam, the ummah and the country remain our highest priority,” while noting internal disputes and criticism of Bersatu’s seat‑sharing demands.
