Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar calls for inclusive coalition as UMNO debates role

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that no political party or ethnic group should be sidelined in the administration of Malaysia. Speaking to ministry officials, he emphasized that the government must respect the constitution, the mandate of the people and the country's multi‑ethnic reality, warning that exclusionist statements give a "bad message".

Separately, UMNO youth chief Dr Muhd Akmal Saleh challenged Anwar to remove all UMNO members of parliament from the cabinet if the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition is deemed to have no role in the government formed after the 15th General Election. Akmal cited the earlier cooperation between PH and UMNO to establish a unity government and urged the prime minister to act if BN’s contribution is considered irrelevant.
