Maldives Ministry issues warning to retailers over missing price tags

The Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade in the Maldives has issued a public notice reminding retail businesses to clearly display price tags on all items for sale. This directive follows numerous consumer complaints regarding goods being displayed without explicit pricing.

Under Section 16(a) of the Consumer Protection Act, businesses must ensure pricing is clear before items are displayed. Compliance can be achieved by marking prices directly on the items or by attaching labels at the display location that clearly identify the specific product.

Authorities announced that inspectors will conduct monitoring visits under Section 66 of the Act. The ministry cautioned that businesses failing to comply will face formal regulatory enforcement action under Section 84.
