Bank of Maldives reports record MVR 1.93 billion profit

Bank of Maldives (BML) has reported record-breaking financial results for the first nine months of 2026. The bank achieved a net profit after tax of MVR 1.93 billion, representing a 26 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Key drivers of this growth include increased lending to vital economic sectors, an expanding deposit base, and heightened digital transaction volumes. Total customer deposits rose by 14 percent to reach MVR 42.36 billion. During this nine-month period, BML issued MVR 12.1 billion in new loans, surpassing the total lending recorded for the entirety of 2025.

Regarding foreign currency, the bank reported USD 2.96 billion in inflows through inward remittances and net card settlements during the first nine months of 2026, a 15 percent increase year-on-year. While September saw a seasonal decline in US dollar receipts to USD 240 million, BML anticipates a recovery in the final quarter as the Maldives enters its peak tourism season.
