Bank of Maldives financial performance
Overview
The Bank of Maldives (BML) reported a record nine-month net profit of 1.93 billion MVR for the first nine months of 2026, marking a 26 percent increase over the same period in 2025. Growth was driven by increased lending to vital economic sectors, an expanding deposit base, and rising digital transaction volumes.
Total customer deposits rose by 14 percent to reach 42.36 billion MVR. During this nine-month period, the bank issued 12.1 billion MVR in new loans, a figure that surpassed the total lending recorded for the entirety of 2025. The bank maintained a capital adequacy ratio of 38 percent and a cost-to-income ratio of 28 percent.
In terms of foreign currency, BML reported USD 2.96 billion in inflows through inward remittances and net card settlements during the first nine months of 2026, representing a 15 percent year-on-year increase. Although September experienced a seasonal decline in US dollar receipts to USD 240 million, the bank anticipates a recovery in the final quarter coinciding with the Maldives’ peak tourism season.
