Male Fertility Crisis: Only 25% of Men Have Healthy Sperm
Health experts report that only one in four men worldwide now have optimal semen quality. A 2012 study cited by a Nigerian gynaecologist and World Health Organization data indicate that sperm counts have fallen by more than 50 % over the past five decades, leaving few men able to reach the 39 million sperm concentration needed for natural conception. Male factors are estimated to contribute to about 50 % of infertility cases, and paternal health may influence pregnancy outcomes by 40‑50 %.
The decline is linked to obesity, poor lifestyle, exposure to endocrine‑disrupting chemicals, scrotal overheating and other health conditions. Experts urge routine male fertility checks, early intervention, lifestyle changes and greater public awareness, as well as psychological support for affected men.
