Malespín Constructora to build San Miguelito urban cable car in Panama
Dominican company Malespín Constructora has been appointed as the civil works contractor for the new San Miguelito urban cable car in Panama. This marks the firm's first large-scale public infrastructure project outside of the Dominican Republic.
The project is part of a broader expansion by the Panama Metro, with the contract for the cable car system awarded to Doppelmayr. The total global investment for the project is approximately US$255 million. Malespín will be responsible for the civil engineering components, including foundations, stations, and support towers.
The cable car system will span approximately 6.6 kilometers, featuring six stations located at Balboa, Cincuentenario, Samaria, Mano de Piedra, Valle de Urracá, and Torrijos Carter. The system will connect to the Panama Metro Line 2 at the Cincuentenario station, integrating the cable car into the existing mass transit network to improve mobility for residents in the San Miguelito area.
