Mali and Senegal boost military reintegration training
On 4 August 2026 a military ceremony in Tombouctou, Mali marked the completion of basic training for 394 participants in the country’s Disarmament, Demobilisation, Reintegration and Integration (DDRI) programme. The event, held at the Centre Opérationnel de Mise en Condition, featured a flag‑presentation and demonstrations of weapon handling, and was attended by the regional governor, Colonel Seydou Bassirou Niangado and other security officials.
A week later, on 7 August 2026, Senegal’s Agency for the Social Reintegration of Soldiers (ARSM) convened a closing ceremony in Ouakam to award certificates to 45 trainees who had completed vocational courses in agriculture, livestock and bakery‑pastry. Colonel Serigne Fallou Diouf presided over the ceremony, noting that the training – funded 90 % by the Fonds de financement de la formation professionnelle et technique – aims to help former soldiers start farms, businesses or cooperatives, with continued support from ARSM.
