Mali ambush reveals Tuareg separatists and al‑Qaeda affiliate joining forces

On July 18, a joint convoy of the Malian Armed Forces and Russia’s Africa Corps was ambushed near the northern town of Anefis, killing at least 50 Malian soldiers and an unspecified number of Russian personnel, with several fighters taken captive.
