Mali integrates 1,500 new soldiers into Rapid Intervention Battalions

On August 28, 2026, Mali held a ceremony at the Samanko National Hardening Center to mark the graduation of 1,509 new soldiers into the Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR). The ceremony was presided over by Colonel-Major Mamadou Souleymane Koné, the national coordinator for the BIR.

The new recruits completed a rigorous four-month training program focused on rustic combat, asymmetric warfare, and rapid reactivity. The training emphasized tactical mobility, specifically the use of motorcycles and light armored vehicles to ensure effective operations in high-risk areas and complex environments.

During his address, Colonel-Major Koné emphasized the importance of discipline, cohesion, and esprit de corps, stating, “You are the shield of our populations and the nightmare of those who attack the homeland.” He also acknowledged the leadership of Transition President Assimi Goïta in strengthening the capacities of the Malian army.
