Mali military camp attack leaves at least 100 soldiers dead

At least 100 Malian soldiers and five Russian paramilitaries from Africa Corps were killed during a large-scale jihadist attack on the Dioura military camp in central Mali on September 10.

The attack was claimed by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM). This incident is reported to be one of the deadliest suffered by the Malian army since the conflict began approximately fifteen years ago.

Security sources and local officials indicate that the camp was abandoned following the assault and stripped of its weaponry. Reports from military staff suggest the casualties include at least two officers, with dozens of others reported missing, wounded, or taken prisoner. Some sources noted that the soldiers lacked sufficient air support during the engagement.
