The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) announced the release of 82 soldiers who had been held captive by a coalition of the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) and the Al-Qaeda-affiliated JNIM. The soldiers were captured during a series of coordinated attacks on April 25, 2026, which targeted several locations including Bamako and Kati.

While the Malian military described the release as the result of a rigorous planning process, a spokesperson for the FLA stated the soldiers were released on humanitarian grounds. According to the FLA, approximately 118 Malian soldiers remain in captivity.

On the same day, Malian President Assimi Goïta granted a pardon to Yann Christian-Bernard Vézilier, a French national previously sentenced to 20 years in prison for alleged conspiracy against the state. The government noted that the clemency requires Vézilier's immediate departure from the country.

Separately, the Malian military reported significant operational successes during June and July 2026, claiming to have neutralized 1,850 terrorists and destroyed 45 militant bases under the Dougoukoloko Plan.
