Mallorca government rejects 21-hectare solar park in Ariany

The Government of the Balearic Islands has rejected the Alten Mallorca IV photovoltaic park project in Ariany. The decision follows an unfavorable environmental impact statement regarding the proposed 21-hectare installation.

The project, which included approximately 19,000 photovoltaic modules and a battery energy storage system, was deemed incompatible with territorial preservation. Key concerns cited by authorities included the impact on high-quality agricultural land and historical heritage.

Technical analysis indicated that the affected area is a productive rural environment rather than marginal land. The resolution warned that replacing agricultural activity with industrial energy infrastructure would lead to a prolonged loss of soil productivity, potential biodiversity loss, and increased external food dependency.
