Mallorca records hottest summer since 1961
Mallorca has experienced its hottest summer since records began in 1961. María José Guerrero, chair of the Balearic Islands weather agency, reported that the average summer temperature reached 27.1 degrees Celsius, which is 3.1 degrees above the long-term average. This marks the tenth consecutive year that summer temperatures have exceeded historical means.
The extreme heat is attributed to high solar radiation and hot air masses moving from Africa across the Mediterranean. The prolonged heat has led to increased demand for cooling appliances and has been linked to mortality statistics in Spain.
Weather forecasts for the region indicate that late summer conditions are persisting. Temperatures in various locations, including Palma, Binissalem, and Pollença, are expected to remain high, with highs reaching between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
