Mallorca weather shifts from extreme heat to thunderstorms
Extreme heat on Mallorca is being replaced by a significant weather shift. Following temperatures that reached up to 39 degrees Celsius, the Spanish weather service Aemet has issued orange warnings for parts of the island due to expected thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Forecasts indicate that localized rainfall could reach 40 liters per square meter within a single hour, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour. While temperatures are expected to drop to between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, the weather remains unsettled with yellow warnings for heavy rain continuing into Friday.
In areas such as Santanyí, conditions have transitioned from high heat to cloudy but dry summer weather, with temperatures reaching approximately 35 degrees Celsius. Conditions are expected to stabilize by Saturday, with more sun and fewer storm warnings.
