Mamarrosa to host 7th traditional corn-husking festival

The Rancho Folclórico S. Simão de Mamarrosa will host the 7th edition of the ‘Tradicional Desfolhada da Mamarrosa’ on Saturday, October 3. The event aims to preserve rural agricultural traditions and regional intangible heritage through a recreation of historical community customs.

The festivities begin in the morning with the corn harvest, followed by an evening program starting at 20:30 near the church courtyard. The event features music, dance, and theater, including the traditional ‘descamisar do milho’ (husking of the corn), where the public is invited to participate. A highlight of the night is the search for the ‘Milho-Rei’ (King Corn), a traditional red corn cob used for games and celebration.

This year, the host group will be joined by the Rancho Folclórico S. Pedro do Canedo and the Pauliteiros de Ossela to perform traditional songs and dances.
