Mamou, Guinea driver trial for 16‑death traffic crash

The trial of 24‑year‑old driver Mamadou Saliou Diallo opened before the Tribunal de première instance in Mamou, Guinea. He faces charges of involuntary homicide, involuntary assault and property damage after a collision on the Diarabaka road that killed 16 people.

Diallo acknowledged the incident, stating “Je ne suis pas ici pour avoir raison,” and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. The prosecuting attorney argued the driver could have avoided the tragedy by resting for 30 minutes. The civil plaintiff, representing the family of a victim who lost his wife and four children, demanded 3 billion Guinean francs in damages from the insurer NSIA. The court ordered the insurer to be summoned and adjourned the case to 28 July 2026 for further proceedings.
