Man arrested in Catania for kidnapping and sexual violence

A 40-year-old man from Gela has been arrested in the province of Catania on charges of sexual violence, kidnapping, and causing bodily injury. According to investigators, the man locked his partner in a bedroom, threatened her with a knife to her throat, attempted to strangle her with leggings, and used packaging tape to suffocate her. He also reportedly seized her phone and house keys before forcing her to engage in sexual acts.

The victim, who had previously ended the relationship, reported the incident to the Carabinieri after managing to escape the house. She described a history of jealousy and possessiveness. The suspect, who was under a residency restriction in Gela, provided false identification to authorities during the arrest. The Catania Prosecutor's Office has ordered his transfer to the Piazza Lanza prison following the validation of his arrest by a judge.
