Assault and kidnapping arrest in Sicily

Overview

A 40-year-old man from Gela was arrested in Pedara, Sicily, following the kidnapping and sexual assault of his 35-year-old partner.

Investigators report that the suspect, motivated by obsessive jealousy, became enraged after the couple had dinner in Catania and returned to their home in Pedara. The man allegedly threatened the victim with a knife to her throat, attempted to strangle her with clothing and a pillow, and used packaging tape to suffocate and silence her. He also reportedly seized her mobile phone and house keys before locking her in a bedroom and forcing her to engage in sexual acts.

The victim, who had recently decided to end the relationship due to his history of abuse, managed to escape the residence at dawn while the suspect was asleep. She sought assistance from the Carabinieri in a state of shock.

The suspect, who was already under a residency obligation in Gela, reportedly provided false identification during his arrest. Following the validation of the arrest by a judge, the Catania Prosecutor’s Office ordered his transfer to the Piazza Lanza prison on charges of sexual violence, kidnapping, and personal injury.
