Man detained in Mafra domestic violence homicide

A 40-year-old man has been placed in preventive detention following the fatal stabbing of his 35-year-old girlfriend in Mafra, Lisbon district. The incident, occurring within a domestic violence context, involved the suspect using a knife to inflict abdominal wounds that caused the woman's death.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office (PGR), the suspect is also facing charges of aggravated threats for allegedly threatening to kill his mother, who reportedly witnessed the homicide. Following the attack, the man reportedly walked to a nearby pharmacy while covered in blood and wielding the knife, which led to his arrest by a passing GNR patrol.

The suspect will be held at the Caixias Prison Establishment. The investigation is being conducted by the Integrated Specialized Section of Domestic Violence of Sintra, under the Lisbon Department of Investigation and Criminal Action, with assistance from the Judicial Police.
