Man found dead on Monte Cornizzolo in Italy

A 58-year-old man, Massimo Stefanoni, was found dead in the woods of Eupilio on the slopes of Monte Cornizzolo. The resident of Cesana Brianza had gone into the forest to collect mushrooms and failed to return home, triggering an extensive search operation.

The rescue effort involved ten alpine rescue technicians and fire departments from Como, Dongo, Menaggio, Erba, and Canzo. His body was located in dense undergrowth near a main road, a short distance from the Trattoria Brianzola.

This incident follows another mountain tragedy in the Grigna area, where a 72-year-old man died following a suspected medical emergency. In that separate case, rescuers utilized IMSI Catcher technology to locate the individual via mobile phone signals.
