Fatalities during mushroom hunting in Italy
Overview
Two separate incidents involving mushroom hunters have resulted in fatalities in different regions of Italy.
In San Vivaldo, a 63-year-old man from the Empolese area was found dead in a ditch on the evening of October 7. After he failed to return from a morning mushroom hunting trip, a search operation involving the Carabinieri, fire brigade, and medical services was launched. Rescuers located his vehicle before discovering his body.
On October 11, a 58-year-old man named Massimo Stefanoni was found dead in the woods of Eupilio on the slopes of Monte Cornizzolo. Following his failure to return home from mushroom collecting, an extensive search was conducted by alpine rescue technicians and multiple fire departments. His body was located in dense undergrowth near a main road.
