Man in Trabzon overcomes 37-year smoking addiction
Zeki Yılmaz, a 53-year-old resident of Trabzon, has successfully ended a 37-year smoking addiction through medical intervention. Motivated by a family history of lung cancer—having lost his father, grandfather, and uncles to the disease—as well as personal health issues including chest pain and shortness of breath, Yılmaz sought help at the Healthy Life Center Smoking Cessation Clinic under the Ortahisar Health Directorate.
Following a 25-day course of medication and additional medical examinations, Yılmaz has been smoke-free for approximately three months. He reported significant health improvements, including better sleep patterns, easier breathing, and increased energy levels. To manage cravings, he has utilized methods such as drinking water and staying occupied with various activities.
Dr. Dilara Kalfa, the head of the Smoking Cessation Clinic, noted that tobacco use remains a leading cause of preventable death and is linked to various conditions, including lung, stomach, and bladder cancers, as well as COPD, asthma, and diabetes.
