A man in his 30s was fatally shot on a northbound E train platform at the 53rd Street–7th Avenue subway station in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The incident occurred around 12:21 p.m. following a verbal dispute involving two or three men.

According to the NYPD, the suspect approached the victim, displayed a firearm, and shot him once in the chest. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The shooting caused significant disruptions to transit service, with E, C, and D trains bypassing the station or being rerouted during the investigation.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading northbound on 7th Avenue. Authorities released surveillance images describing the individual as wearing a red hooded tracksuit, a black padded vest, a black face mask, and carrying a black backpack. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD is actively seeking the perpetrator.
