Man of Tomorrow faces concerns over large superhero ensemble
The upcoming DC Universe sequel, ‘Man of Tomorrow’, faces potential criticism regarding its large ensemble cast. Following the pattern of the previous DCEU ‘Justice League’ film, there are concerns that the inclusion of numerous superheroes may lead to a crowded narrative where characters lack sufficient development.
Confirmed or expected characters for the film include Superman, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, John Stewart, Supergirl, and Blue Beetle. The cast also features Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and Rick Flag Sr.
While the high number of characters mirrors past issues with franchise overcrowding, director James Gunn may have an advantage. Many of these characters, such as Supergirl and John Stewart, are slated for their own solo projects, which could allow the film to focus on the core story rather than extensive character introductions. Gunn’s previous experience managing large ensembles in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘The Suicide Squad’ is cited as a potential factor in the film's success.
