DC Universe Man of Tomorrow production updates
Overview
Production for the DC Universe film ‘Man of Tomorrow’ has transitioned into the post-production phase following the wrap of principal photography in August 2026. As a sequel to 2025’s ‘Superman’, the film is being positioned as the franchise’s first major event movie, serving as a crossover between the ‘Superman’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Lanterns’ productions. The narrative is expected to feature a nascent version of the Justice League and is described as having a more mature, dense, and epic tone.
The plot involves an unlikely alliance between Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to combat the superintelligent alien Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). The ensemble cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. Recent reports suggest Adria Arjona is part of the cast in an undisclosed role, with speculation linking her to Wonder Woman or Maxima. Other anticipated elements include appearances by Captain Atom and Jonathan Kent.
As of October 2026, James Gunn has stated he is presenting the first director’s cut to Peter Safran a month ahead of schedule, dismissing rumors of negative test screenings. The film remains scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. Amidst the nearing completion of the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, Gunn and Safran are set to remain in their leadership roles at DC Studios.
