The National Republican Guard (GNR) detained a 54‑year‑old man in Santiago do Cacém on suspicion of repeatedly abusing his 47‑year‑old partner. The investigation found a 14‑year pattern of physical, psychological, economic and sexual violence, including episodes where the suspect asphyxiated the victim, leading to her hospitalization. Several assaults occurred while the couple’s children were present.

During the operation police seized a 6.35 mm pistol with seven cartridges, a hunting shotgun and 24 shotgun shells. The court ordered the suspect to stay at least 500 m from the victim, to cease all contact, and prohibited him from acquiring or retaining weapons.
