Mana Ashida to star in Japanese remake of ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’

Actress Mana Ashida will star in the Japanese remake of the hit South Korean drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, titled ‘Minamida Minami Lawyer is a Genius’. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 19 on Kantele/Fuji TV, with subsequent streaming on Netflix.

Ashida portrays Minamida Minami, a brilliant new lawyer with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who graduated at the top of her class from the University of Tokyo. Despite her academic success, she faces social prejudice and communication challenges while working at a top-tier law firm. The drama follows her journey of overcoming obstacles through her unique perspective and exceptional memory.

To prepare for the role, Ashida has studied books on ASD, consulted specialists, and visited educational facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities. She expressed that while the project is a “big challenge” and carries pressure due to the original’s global popularity, she aims to portray the character’s emotions with sincerity.
