Manaus bus drivers end three‑day strike after salary payments

The strike by bus drivers in Manaus began on Monday, 20 April after transport companies failed to pay the first installment of wages within the deadline set by the Regional Labor Court (TRT‑11). During the three‑day stoppage, the union complied with the court‑ordered minimum service, maintaining 80 % of the fleet during peak hours and 50 % at other times.

The walkout ended on Wednesday, 22 April when the state transferred R$18 million to the transport companies, allowing the overdue salaries to be paid. Mayor Renato Junior called on the companies to make the payments immediately, and union president Givancir Oliveira warned that any further delay could trigger another strike. The dispute is linked to a larger debt of roughly R$90 million associated with the free student pass, part of which is the responsibility of the Amazonas government.
