Water supply interruptions and sanitation upgrades impact millions across Brazil
The water utility Copasa announced that Araxá (MG) will experience intermittent water supply on 23 June due to scheduled operational maintenance, with service expected to normalize gradually on the morning of 24 June.
In Manaus, the municipal regulator Ageman inspected progress on a sewer network expansion in the Redenção neighbourhood, installing 1,200 m of collector pipes to serve about 600 residents and improve hygiene conditions. The project is part of the city’s goal to reach 90 % sanitation coverage by 2033.
Bahia’s water company Embasa modified its customer‑service centre (SAC) hours for the São João holidays, closing all centres on 23–24 June and directing users to digital channels such as WhatsApp, phone and an online portal.
The Espírito Santo provider Cesan scheduled a system‑wide maintenance on 20 June that could interrupt water for roughly 237 000 customers in Vitória, Serra, Cariacica, Fundão and Aracruz. Restoration will be phased, with full normalisation taking up to 24 hours in higher‑lying areas.
Embasa also carried out preventive maintenance on water and sewage infrastructure in the Bahia towns of Santo Antônio de Jesus, Cruz das Almas, Amargosa and Cachoeira to cope with the surge in demand during São João, reinforcing pumps, monitoring telemetry and ensuring safe water and waste‑water services throughout the festival period.
