Manaus launches first Gastronomic Street to boost tourism and creative economy

The municipality of Manaus began work on Thursday, 6 May, to transform a 190‑metre stretch of Ferreira Pena into the city’s first dedicated Gastronomic Street. The project, signed by Mayor Renato Junior, is part of the “Nosso Centro” urban renewal programme and aims to create a pedestrian‑only boulevard with LED lighting, natural stone sidewalks, landscaping, street furniture and underground utilities. Historic buildings along the corridor will be restored and re‑occupied, with 26 heritage properties targeted for revitalisation.

The six‑month works are scheduled for completion by 15 November. City officials expect the new boulevard to attract tourists, stimulate local restaurants and bars, and generate broader economic benefits for the creative sector in Manaus.
