Manaus Gastronomic Street project

Overview

In early May 2026, the municipality of Manaus began work on a 190‑metre stretch of Ferreira Pena to create the city’s first dedicated Gastronomic Street, a pedestrian‑only boulevard featuring LED lighting, natural‑stone sidewalks, landscaping and restored heritage buildings. The six‑month construction, part of the “Nosso Centro” urban renewal programme, is slated for completion by mid‑November and is intended to attract tourists, stimulate local restaurants and bars, and boost the creative economy.

A few days later the city announced that all 17 existing trees on the corridor will be retained, integrating a green element into the redesign. The plan includes a continuous platform, interlocking concrete paving, quartzite sidewalks, decorative lighting, benches, waste bins and flower boxes, emphasizing heritage preservation, accessibility and a vibrant nighttime environment.
