Manaus police arrest suspects in infant kidnapping case

Police in Manaus have arrested several suspects in connection with the kidnapping of Ayla Sofia, a 23-day-old infant. The investigation revealed that the suspects used a false promise of donating diapers and clothing via social media to lure the baby's mother to a residence.

According to the Amazonas Civil Police, the mother was drugged and assaulted during the encounter. Following the abduction, the suspect, Jaqueline da Silva Braz, reportedly presented the infant to friends and family as her own child.

Authorities have arrested Jaqueline da Silva Braz, 24, along with Lucas Pereira da Silva, 22, and Wesley Nascimento Lopes, 31. The infant was located by residents in the Santo Agostinho neighborhood, showing signs of dehydration and sun exposure. She was subsequently taken to a maternity hospital for medical care. Investigators are still looking into potential links to human trafficking.
