Manaus Preserves 17 Trees in Ferreira Pena for New “Rua Gastronômica”

The municipal government of Manaus announced that all 17 trees currently standing on Ferreira Pena street will be retained as part of the city's first "Rua Gastronômica" project. The urban requalification plan, coordinated by the Instituto Municipal de Planejamento Urbano (Implurb), will integrate the existing green corridor with new pedestrian‑friendly infrastructure, including a continuous platform, interlocking concrete paving, natural quartzite sidewalks, LED decorative lighting, benches, waste bins and flower boxes.

Implurb director‑president Antonio Peixoto emphasized that the trees are a core element of the street’s identity and will remain untouched, while vice‑president Pedro Paulo Cordeiro highlighted the project's focus on preserving historical heritage, improving accessibility and creating a vibrant nighttime environment. The initiative is part of the "Nosso Centro" program, aiming to boost the central district through gastronomy, commerce and enhanced public spaces.
