Manaus public transport disrupted by strikes and damaged infrastructure

Public transportation in Manaus is facing significant disruptions due to a combination of labor strikes and deteriorating infrastructure. On Tuesday, bus services were partially halted following a strike by road workers over unpaid wages. The movement, which began around 10:40 a.m., affected various regions of the city, causing increased wait times and reduced fleet availability at terminals and bus stops.

According to Sinetram, the companies' cash flow has been impacted by delayed reimbursements from the Amazonas State Government regarding the Student Free Pass program. Meanwhile, the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU) stated it is monitoring the situation, noting that the strike was not pre-communicated by the workers' union.

Compounding these service issues, commuters in the Distrito Industrial area are dealing with damaged bus stops. Reports indicate that shelters in the South Zone have broken tiles, destroyed seating, and structural damage, leaving passengers exposed to the sun and weather while waiting for infrequent service.
