Manaus to host National SUS Force station and expand mobile health services

The Manaus City Hall has announced several initiatives to strengthen local healthcare services. Starting October 20, the city will host a permanent station for the National SUS Force (Força Nacional do SUS) to bolster medical assistance.

Health officials are currently addressing challenges posed by wildfire smoke and the seasonal drought, which has isolated 14 riverside communities. To improve access to these areas, the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) has proposed acquiring quadricycles to assist medical teams. Additionally, the city is seeking authorization from the Ministry of Health to resume nebulization treatments in approximately 76 health units to support patients with respiratory issues.

In a separate effort to expand primary care access for women, Semsa is deploying mobile women's health units across the North, South, East, West, and rural zones of Manaus. These mobile units provide services including medical and nursing consultations, mammographies, ultrasounds, cervical cancer screenings, prenatal care, family planning, rapid testing for infections, and vaccinations.
