Public health service expansions in Manaus

Overview

In Manaus, public health initiatives have focused on expanding medical access through specialized mobile services and strengthening the local healthcare infrastructure.

As part of the ‘Outubro Rosa’ campaign, the city launched the ‘Circuito de Saúde da Mulher’, a walk-in service providing consultations, vaccinations, and diagnostic imaging such as mammographies and Pap smears without prior scheduling. This program utilizes nine stations to facilitate early cancer diagnosis and rotates through various urban zones.

To further bolster medical assistance, Manaus announced it will host a permanent station for the National SUS Force starting October 20. Local health officials are also addressing environmental challenges, including respiratory issues caused by wildfire smoke and seasonal drought. Proposed solutions include acquiring quadricycles to reach isolated riverside communities and seeking authorization to resume nebulization treatments in approximately 76 health units. The deployment of mobile women’s health units has also been expanded to include the South and rural zones of the city.
