Manchester United equals 50-year defensive record after Everton draw

Manchester United has equaled a 50-year defensive record after a 2-2 draw against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium. This marks only the second time since the mid-1970s that the club has conceded at least two goals in each of its first three Premier League matches of a season, the previous occurrence being in the 2020/21 campaign.

During the match, Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead, and Benjamin Sesko later scored a header to seemingly secure a victory. However, Everton responded with an equalizer from Tyrique George, followed by a last-minute stoppage-time strike from Ainsley Maitland-Niles to force the draw.

While the team's attack has shown strength, manager Michael Carrick faces criticism regarding defensive instability. Former player and pundit Gary Neville noted that the team's back four should not be constantly changed and expressed concern that the club is giving opponents confidence.
