Manchester United and Everton draw 2-2 in Premier League

Benjamin Šeško later appeared to have secured a victory for United with an 88th-minute header following an assist from Luke Shaw, but Everton responded in the 83rd minute through Tyrique George. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a “spectacular 30-yard equalizer” on his debut to level the match.

The result allows Everton, managed by David Moyes, to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. For Manchester United, manager Michael Carrick continues to navigate significant squad challenges, including the ongoing absences of Manuel Ugarte and Matthijs de Ligt. The match also marked the return of Jack Grealish to Everton on loan.

Following the draw, Manchester United has equaled a 50-year defensive record by conceding at least two goals in each of its first three Premier League matches of the 2026-27 season. This is only the second time the club has achieved this since the mid-1970s, with the previous occurrence in the 2020/21 campaign. Having conceded six goals across three games—including a 2-0 loss to Hull City and a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town—United sits 11th in the standings with a record of one win, one draw, and one loss.

While the team's attack has shown strength, Carrick faces criticism regarding defensive instability. Pundit Gary Neville expressed concern that the club is “giving opponents confidence” and suggested the back four should not be constantly changed. These defensive issues have been attributed to a failure to secure new defensive signings during the summer transfer window.
