East Village truck collision kills 15-year-old girl
A 15-year-old girl, identified as Daria Serkov, was killed and a 16-year-old girl was injured after being struck by a commercial truck in Manhattan’s East Village on Friday night. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of East 14th Street and First Avenue.
According to police, the two teenagers were riding together on a single electric Citi Bike when a Peterbilt hydro excavation truck, operated by Badger Daylighting, attempted a right turn from westbound 14th Street onto northbound First Avenue. The collision resulted in the bicycle being crushed beneath the vehicle's wheels.
Both victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital, where Serkov was pronounced dead. The 16-year-old girl was reported to be in stable condition with a leg injury. The 57-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the NYPD investigation. Witnesses described a dramatic scene, noting that the driver appeared distraught following the impact.
