Manhattan truck collision involving teenagers

Overview

On September 19, an excavation truck struck two teenagers riding a single electric Citi Bike in Manhattan’s East Village as the vehicle turned north onto First Avenue from westbound East 14th Street. The collision, which occurred around 9 p.m., resulted in the death of 15-year-old Daria Serkov.

A 16-year-old girl was also injured and transported to Bellevue Hospital with a leg injury; she is reported to be in stable condition. The vehicle involved was identified as a Peterbilt hydro excavation truck operated by Badger Daylighting.

The 57-year-old driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the NYPD investigation. Witnesses described the driver as appearing “distraught” following the impact.
