Manipur: N Biren Singh proposes confining militants to camps
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to discuss escalating violence in the state's hill districts. Singh reported that recent attacks have resulted in daily deaths and the destruction of multiple villages. He estimated that violence in the hill districts since February has claimed 58 lives and led to the burning of 40 to 50 villages.
To curb the unrest, Singh proposed that armed cadres operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement be identified and confined to designated camps along with their weapons for a period of two to three months. He also suggested conducting statewide security operations to recover unauthorized weapons and take action against armed groups operating outside existing peace arrangements.
Additionally, Singh called for the resettlement of internally displaced persons and an update to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to address issues related to illegal immigration.
